Why TITANIC is worth knowing
The Titanic sent both CQD and SOS in 1912. CQD was the older Marconi distress call — CQ plus D for distress — and SOS had been agreed only six years earlier. The sinking is often credited with popularising SOS, though it was already the official signal.
