Signal Defender

Characters fall, one sounding as each appears. Type a character to knock down the lowest one matching it. Let three reach the floor and the run is over.

Practice waits for you. This does not, which is the whole point — copying at speed fails not because you cannot decode a character but because you cannot decode it before the next one arrives.

CHARACTERS

What a game is for

Not learning. Practice teaches, and it waits for you — you can sit on a character for ten seconds and still be told you were right. That is correct for learning and useless as a measure, because copying at speed does not fail on characters you cannot decode. It fails on characters you cannot decode before the next one arrives.

This is that gap, made visible. Everything you knock down still feeds the same review schedule as practice, so a run is not thrown away — but what it is really for is the list at the end of what got past you.

It plays with sound off

Each falling signal shows its dots and dashes as well as its letter, so with sound off insettings this becomes a reading game instead of a listening one. Slower to get hard, and still worth playing.

The other one is Morse Runner, which is the same idea for sending.
